Enrique Villalon, 76, of Calexico passed away of cardiac pulmonary arrest on December 5 at Kindred Hospital.
He was born August 4, 1937 in Bacalod City, Philippines. Enrique, known as Jojo to everyone was a beloved father, brother, grandfather and doctor. Originally he began in engineering, but changed his major to biology and sought an education in medicine, which became his calling. While in pre-med, he became the "Amateur Welter Weight Champion" of Manila Central University. He brought pride and joy to his family when he graduated medical school at MCU. He originally practiced obstetric and gynecology in the Philippines, came to the states where he then practiced Internal Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He was eventually drafted into the U.S. Army as a Major and was deployed to Vietnam during the war. He was honorably discharged with 2 bronze stars for his tour. Shortly after returning to the states he made Chicago his first home. There he was very active in the Filipino Medical Community, as the president of the PMAC and Chicago Lions Club. He was also a leader of the revolutionary - Movement for Free Philippines fighting alongside with the late Raul Manglapus and late Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino. In time moved to the Imperial Valley to practice medicine and retired from the Clinicas De Salud del Pueblo. He loved his work as a doctor, integrating Western and Eastern medicine with his Catholic faith. To his family, friends and patients he was most known for his faith, love and his generosity. He will be missed greatly by all those who knew him.
Viewing will be Saturday, December 14 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, December 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, CA 90630. A rosary vigil will take place Sunday, December 15 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Church of Our Fathers - Forest Lawn. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 16th at 10 a.m. at St. Pius V Church, 7691 Orangethorpe Ave., Buena Park, CA 90621. Internment to follow Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, CA.
A Mass in the Imperial Valley will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. and will be conducted in English and Spanish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique N. Villalon, Sr. and Rosario A. Villalon; sisters, Norma V. Kintanar and Daisy V. Ramos; and brothers, Wendell Villalon, and Rommel A. Villalon, Sr.
Enrique is survived by his children, Enrique M. Villalon, Jr. III and his wife Cherrylynn and their children: Michael, Erika, April, Enrique, MayLorraine and Liberty Rose; May V. Dacanay and her husband John L. Dacanay and their children: Rieffe, Mason, Jackie and Christian; Liberty M. Villalon; Derrick Villalon and his wife My and their children: Ethan, Noah, Cody and Freya; Dollyrose Villalon and her daughter, Destine; sibiling, Dennis A. Villalon and Grace V. Astilla; and former wife, Dalisay M. Villalon.
