HORACIO R. CAÑEZ

On January 28, 2013 at the age of 79, Horacio Cañez passed away in El Centro, CA succumbing to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Horacio was born in Sonora, Mexico where he was raised by his father and older siblings. He was raised in a family owned ranch surrounded by cattle and horses. Horacio had a passion for the outdoors and was a cowboy at heart. Horacio immigrated to the United States in 1970 where he worked as a farm worker for over 30 years. Horacio had many joys, but was mostly proud of his children and their achievements. He always stressed the importance of education and hard work.
Visitation will take place Thursday, February 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in Calexico, with rosary at 7 p.m. Mass, officiated by Father Emilio Magaña, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 8 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico. He will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery immediately following the services.
Horacio is survived by his former wife, Olimpia Cañez; children, Carlos (Frances) Cañez, Audelia "Lupita" (Ruben) Gonzalez, and Said Elena (Jimmy) Savala; eight grandchildren, David, Anthony, Carlos, Katrina and Cassandra Cañez, Illiana and Ruben Gonzalez and Valerie Savala. He is also survived by his sister, Conchita Valdez of Caborca, MX; brother, Manuel (Delma) Cañez of El Centro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
