JAMES A. STIFF

JAMES A. STIFF

Jan. 19, 1955 - Jan. 19, 2013

James A. Stiff was born January 19, 1955 in Brawley and passed away on January 19, 2013, on his 58th birthday. His wife, Tara (Smith) and children, Ryan, Jamie, and Blake were at Jim's side along with his mother, Alma Stiff; and his family Cherie, Debi, Linda and Judy, Richard and Bridget White; also Tara's sisters, Gaytha, Pam and Lana, and a few very special friends. Jim graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1973 and served in the US Navy for 6 years, from 1973-1979, with a rank of E6. Jim opened SEI (Stiff Equipment Inc) in 2011. All 3 of his children have been a part of the growing business. He enjoyed yard work and cooking and being with his family, especially his two granddaughters, Laila and Aubriella Kissee. We don't want to forget his short stint with the Imperial Valley Players when he had a role (as Anne's father) in the Diary of Anne Franke. His family proudly attended and were pleasantly surprised at his acting talents. An accident in assisting with set building curtailed that venture. He served on the Brawley Planning Commission, Sacred Heart School Board and the Brawley Elks Lodge.
His dad and business partner, Lonnie Stiff, preceded him in death in July 2005.
Jim is survived by his wife, Tara (Smith) Stiff; children, Ryan, Jamie and Blake; mother, Alma Stiff; siblings, Cherie and Jerry McDonald, Debi and Mark Smith, Linda and Virgil Godsey, Judy and Richard White, and Tim Stiff; granddaughters, Laila and Aubriella Kissee; and Tara's sisters, Gaytha McLean, Pam Brown and Lana Craig.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley on Friday, January 25. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Mass will commence at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
