Joe Gastelum, 92, of El Centro passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014 of natural causes in his home.
Joe, affectionately known as Tata Chato, was born March 19, 1922 in Heber, CA and was married to Connie Gastelum on May 13, 1945 in Yuma. He was a mechanic at El Centro Motors from 1944 to 1969 and Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation at Meadows Union School District. He retired in 1989 and lived life to the fullest with his family and his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo Gastelum and Ysidora Gastelum; son, Joe L. Gastelum and 5 siblings.
Joe is survived by his wife, Connie L. Gastelum; son, John L. Gastelum; daughter, Rosemary L. Denton of El Centro; sister, Alice Gastelum Cota of Salinas, CA and brother, Robert Gastelum of Imperial, CA; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hem's Brothers Mortuary in El Centro. Service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 9 a.m. at Hem's Brothers Mortuary in El Centro and will be officiated by Rick Puente from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.
