JOSEPHINE (JOSIE) ACERO SILVAS

Josephine A. Silvas was born August 7, 1929 in Kingsburg, CA to Hijinio Acero and Francisca Romero Acero. She was called to be with the Lord on July 1, 2013, at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family and friends, in her home in Westmorland, CA.
Josie lived a long vibrant life. Her parents were seasonal workers and made their home in Westmorland during the winter. Josie married Manual H. Silvas and briefly resided in Arizona. In 1958, they returned to Westmorland where they raised their children. Josie was a lifelong resident of Westmorland. She became a Teacher's Assistant and retired from the Westmorland Elementary School District after over 20 years of service.
She is especially remembered for her love of family and for being an active member of the Apostolic Assembly Church in Westmorland.
She was preceded by her husband, Manual H. Silvas; her son, Lawrence Silvas; and sister, Margarita A. Diaz.
Josie is survived by her 8 children, Mona (Roberto) Romandia of Porterville, Harry A. Silvas of Turlock, Frances (Ruben) Mireles of Imperial, David A Silvas of Brawley, Virginia S. Jordan of Westmorland, Eva (John) Howard of Tulare, Ruby S. Luera of Bakersfield, and Maria Socorro Silvas of La Quinta; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 8 at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley, CA.
Memorial service will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Apostolic Assembly of the Faith in Christ Jesus, 1230 J St., in Brawley. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery.
