MANUEL JOSEPH NUNEZ

Manuel Joseph Nunez, a former resident of Calexico, California passed away of a heart attack February 20th, 2013 in Woodland, California. He was 70.
Manuel was born on December 1st, 1942 in Woodland, California to Pearl Espigares and Manuel Nunez. He was a proud Calexico "Bulldog" who graduated from CHS in 1962. He attended Imperial Valley College and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona, studying Business Agriculture. Manuel also served honorably in the National Guard and was a member of the Calexico Lions Club. While living in Calexico he married Maria Teresa Lopez and had two daughters, Gabriella and Dominique. He managed the Calexico Chamber of Commerce in the early seventies and was the proud owner of Norms Liquor on Heffernan Avenue for almost 20 years. He went on to manage different AutoZone stores and retired in Woodland, California where he enjoyed spending time with family.
Manuel was a voracious reader of history, a fan of sailing catamarans and traveling to San Felipe, but he will always be remembered for his friendliness and humor.
Manuel is survived by his daughters, Gabriella (Felipe) Enciso and Dominique (Andrew) Barnet; his brother-in-law, Carlos Gutierrez; his nephew, David (Donna) Gutierrez and niece Karla (Michael) Gutierrez Chudy; grandchildren, Sofia, Ana, Juan, Ali and Jack. He is also survived by his great nephew Derek and great nieces Hanna, Nicole and Megan. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel in 1990; his mother, Pearl in 2007 and his beloved sister, Sally who succumbed to cancer in 2011.
We take comfort in knowing that he is at peace. Private ceremony for family only to be held in Woodland, CA.
