Raquel Martinez, 78, of Brawley passed away. She was born on October 9, 1935 in Calexico.
She will be remembered as a nurturing, motherly figure to the children of both family and friends. The lives of many children were enriched while in her loving care. She was a free-spirit always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who crossed her path. One day a couple from El Salvador was walking by her house and asked if she could care for their three year old daughter while they went north in search of farmwork. She cared for their daughter for over six months.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 12th from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in El Centro with rosary at 7 p.m. Mass is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13th at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Calexico. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Andres Martinez, at Mt. View Cemetery in Calexico following mass. Raquel was preceded in death by her parents, Transito and Ramona De La Rosa; her youngest brother, Jose.
She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rebecca (Gilbert) Carrillo, Rosemary (Leo) Pacheco; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rogelio (Bea), Raul (Ramona) Ramiro (Aurelia), Ruben (Olga), Reynaldo (Carmen); son, Israel; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
