Rene Reyes Canchola was born in Mexico, and immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager with his father, Daniel Canchola. He graduated from Brawley Union High School, married his next-door neighbor and high-school sweetheart, Esther Espitia Canchola, and immediately joined the Army and served in the Vietnam Conflict. After being honorably discharged, Rene returned to Brawley and his family. He worked in a number of different positions throughout his life, but most notably he worked at the Clinicas de Salud in Brawley, and was responsible for opening the Clinica's branch in Blythe, CA. Rene spent the last twenty-four years of his career working for Brawley Union High School, having just retired in June 2011.
Having played competitively in Mexico as a youth, Rene was an avid lover of baseball and was equally passionate about Brawley Little League having served as a coach and umpire for many years. He was very proud of his three children and would often recount some of his proudest moments - watching both Lorie and Eddie graduate from college, and seeing Daniel follow in his footsteps by enlisting in the Army. Rene was remarried in 1994 to Aurora Lopez Chavez Canchola. They lived in Calexico for the past eighteen years and had just recently moved to Imperial last month. Having had no previous health concerns, Rene suddenly suffered a massive heart attack and quickly passed in his wife's arms at home. He will be remembered as a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach and friend.
