SALLY AMADOR "MARTINEZ" VALENZUELA

SALLY AMADOR VALENZUELA
MARTINEZ

Apr. 17, 1924 - Apr. 13, 2014

Sally Amador Valenzuela Martinez was born on April 17, 1924 in El Centro California to Ramona and Frank Valenzuela. She was one of 13 siblings. Sally resided in El Centro most of her life and raised her eight children there until she moved to Las Vegas in 1984 following the death of her husband Samuel (Marty).
She loved living near her children in Las Vegas and was completely immersed in each of their lives. In her senior years she enjoyed traveling with other seniors to such places as Lake Tahoe Nevada, Sedona Arizona, Zion National Park and Death Valley California. Equally, she enjoyed visits from her California family. Sally was a wonderful cook and made her famous steak ranchero, tortillas and frijoles. She was the "grand" mama during tamale making at Christmas and was a great culinary teacher. This has now become a wonderful legacy that she has left to her grown daughters, son and granddaughters to carry on during the holidays.
She was the "glue" to her family and a wonderful matriarch. She was loved and adored by all of her children and grandchildren. She had a tremendous sense of humor and enjoyed sharing stories with all, as well as providing guidance in areas where they could enhance their individual lives. She always worried about her children and had an uncanny sense when something was wrong with one of them. In her later years, she enjoyed going out to eat, watching sports, game shows, the cooking channels, playing slots and reading her entertainment magazines. She loved getting her hair and nails done, wearing stylish clothes, and prided herself on looking nice. She also enjoyed gardening. Growing her famed roses was one of her great passions.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband Samuel Martinez; sisters, Mary, Sophia, and Caroline; brothers, Adolpho, William, Phillip and Marcus; sons, Greg Kelly and Sammy Martinez; and grandson, Michael.
She is survived by her brothers, Arturo Valenzuela, and Mel Valenzuela (Virginia); sisters-in-law, Carmen and Sally Valenzuela; children, Becky (Paul) Campbell, Nancy (Don) Knox, Colleen (Alan) Thomas, Kevin Kelly, Gina (Steve) Pappas and Katrina Martinez; grandchildren, Ty Campbell, Leanne (Johnny) Lee, Melissa (Michael Blake) Knox, Krista Kelly, Katie Kelly, Alyssa Rampa, Brandon Pappas, Hayley Thomas and Randall Cornett; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Sally did an amazing job through some difficult and trying times. All of her children were hard working and brought up to be productive and responsible citizens. They are all indebted to her for her love and encouragement. Sally was proud to be an American and of her five brothers that served in WW II and Korea, as well as her spouse Samuel, sons Greg and Kevin who also served in the military.
Her children are all so grateful that the Lord chose her to be their mother.
