ALEXANDER WALTER PRZYTULA JR.

Alexander Walter Przytula, Jr. of Imperial, CA, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013 in Carmel Valley, CA, from complications due to lymphoma.
Alex was born in Roslyn, Long Island, NY on September 26, 1928 to Alexander and Julijanna Przytula, both immigrants from Poland. He graduated High School in Port Washington, LI and went on to attend Syracuse University where he met his wife, Peggy (Bell) Przytula. He was a trumpet player and she played various instruments including euphonium, bass trombone, piano, organ and accordion. They were married in July 1953 and settled in the Imperial Valley in 1960.
He was an active member of the law enforcement community in the Imperial Valley, having served on the US Border Patrol, the El Centro Police force (both as a reserve and regular officer), and became the Head Sergeant of the Imperial Police Department in the 1970's. It was here that he given the nickname "Sarge", by which everyone knew him until his passing. In the mid 1980's he opened his own private investigation business, AWP Investigations, and continued to operate until recently. Alex was very involved in the community music scene in the Valley, performing on trumpet with the Imperial Valley Symphony and the Music Mixers as well as playing Alphorn for various Swiss Club events. He also taught private trumpet lessons for many young trumpet players in the Valley over the past 30 years.
He is survived by his 3 children, Cynthia Cunningham and her husband, Bruce, of Reno, NV, Alex Przytula, III and his family of Imperial, CA, and Cheryl Przytula, a Technical Sergeant in the US Air Force in Massachusetts; 1 grandchild, Robert Przytula and his wife, Catherine, of Brawley, CA; and 2 great-grandchildren, Julian and William Przytula of Brawley, CA.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 6 p.m. and rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in El Centro. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. also at St. Mary's Catholic Church in El Centro. Burial will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico, CA. Reception following the funeral will be at Carrow's Restaurant in El Centro, off route 86.
