Obituary Condolences



July 11, 1924 - Sept. 2, 2012

Bernita Muriel (Johnson) Fulmer, passed away on September 2, 2012 in Sun City, Arizona. Born on July 11, 1924 in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Lethia (Hays) Johnson, she attended Allen County Public Schools and graduated from Iola High School in 1942. Married to Franklin F. Fulmer for 69 years, they moved from Kansas to El Centro, California where they raised three children together. Bernita worked in the Imperial County Library for 33 years, retiring as Librarian in 1993. In 1984, she co-founded the Literacy Volunteers of America - Imperial Valley (LVA-IV) where she was also a mentor and taught literacy. She is a long time member of the Dove of The Desert United Methodist Church in Glendale, AZ. Upon retirement, she and Franklin moved from El Centro California to Arizona in 1993.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin Fulmer; 2 sons, Darrel (Renee) Fulmer and Kent (Susie) Fulmer, and one daughter, Sherry (Rich) Motta; 1 grandson, Brent (Amy) Fulmer; 4 granddaughters, Julie (John) McKellar, Darci Motta, Shelly (David) Phillips, Stacey Fulmer; and 4 great grandchildren, Kayla Fulmer, Justin Fulmer, Jeanette McKellar and Courtney Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Marjorie. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church in Glendale, AZ or Imperial County Historical Society in Imperial, CA.
A private family memorial was held.
