EULALIA "LALA" HUERTA CORRAL

Visitation and the Rosary will be said starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro for Eulalia "Lala" Huerta Corral, 92, of El Centro, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April, 1, 2014.
Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.
Mrs. Corral was born February 22, 1922, in Zacatecas, Mexico. She was raised in Yuma, where her parents were sharecrop farmers who lost everything during the Great Depression. They moved to El Centro in 1936, where she remained a resident for 78 years.
Although she never formally attended school, she taught herself to read and write in Spanish and English. She was an avid reader, who would read anything she could get her hands on. She had a sharp mind to the end.
In 1938 she married Salvador Corral in El Centro. They were married for 46 years before he passed away in 1984.
Mrs. Corral was a founder of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Centro. She was also a devoted mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Salvador, she was preceded in death by her son, Salvador Jr.; sisters, Lupe Escalera and Socorro Lujan; and brothers, Jesus, Manuel and Antonio Huerta, Alfredo and Nicolas Enriquez and Ramon Molina.
She is survived her son, Manuel Corral and his wife, Alice; daughters, Norma Montoya and her late husband, Guadalupe, and Christy Jaime and her husband, Genaro; brother, Domingo Enriquez and his wife, Chavela; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grand- children; 13 great-great- grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
