RENTERIA MENDOZA

Jan. 19, 1924 - Sept. 2, 2012

Guadalupe Renteria Mendoza, 88, was born in Sonora Arizona on January 19, 1924 and passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012. Guadalupe was preceded in death by husband, Rafael L. Mendoza on November 3, 1983; granddaughter, Maricela May Mendoza on May 22, 2010 and son, Maximo Mendoza November 11, 2011.
Guadalupe met her soul mate Rafael in Calipatria. They were married and settled in Niland in 1938 and started their family. Together they made their home on a ranch off of Luna Road where they raised their children and grandchildren. Guadalupe loved to make cheese, butter and soap. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting blankets for her children and grandchildren, watching "novelas" and gathering her family for a large meal. Her grandchildren always looked forward to visiting her, learning from her and hearing her stories.
Her children would like her to be remembered as a wonderful loving wife, mother and nana. She was well known as a mother in her community, with many others referring to her as "Ama" and Nana. She was also well known for making tamales at Christmas and she always made sure everyone took some home in a bag to enjoy later. Family looked forward to her warm, handmade tortillas with butter, coffee and Sunday BBQ's at the ranch. One of her favorite dishes was Chicken Mole. Nana always had a smile on her face and had a welcoming heart.
She is survived by Robert and Maricela Mendoza of Niland, Frank and Pauline Mendoza of Merced, Carmen and Frank Watson of Niland, Martha Mendoza and Gilbert Perez of Niland, Ralph Mendoza Jr., of Niland, Carlos and Blanca Mendoza of Niland, Connie and Berl Hardwick of Niland, Terry and Jose Garcia of Westmorland, and Gabriel Mendoza of Niland. She had a total of 32 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchil- dren. Someone who held a very special place in her heart was her grandson Carlitos. She looked forward to his visits where they would joke around with each other making each other laugh. She could always count on him to brighten her day.
Visitation for Guadalupe will be held Tuesday, September 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley with rosary at 7 p.m.
Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, September 12 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Niland at 9 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery immediately following the service.
We love you "Ama", Nana, "Guera" and we will never forget the big smile you always had on your face; but most of all, we will remember you as the rock of our family.
