JAMES GORDON FERRELL

James Gordon Ferrell, a Calexico native, member of a pioneer Imperial Valley family and proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Imperial Heights Healthcare and Wellness Center in Brawley at 92.
He was born April 14, 1920 in Calexico. He was a graduate of Calexico High and UC Davis. He was a WWII veteran, participating in the battles of D-Day in Normandy, France and Okinawa, Japan. He rose to the rank of Captain. He was a farmer and lived in the Imperial Valley all of his life. He was a past treasurer of the Calexico Elks Lodge and past Commander of the VFW Post in Calexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and most of his peers.
Survivors include son, Charles and daughter-in-law Kerrie Ferrell of Beaumont, CA, nephews, James Albert Ferrell Compton, John Gordon Compton, Luman Grover Ferrell II, Michael Ferrell, William Goddard and Bud Korn; nieces, Susan Davis, Nancy Ferrell, Louise Kilborn, Irene Shelton, Betty Zinn, Bud Korn, Dorothy Meier and their spouses and children.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at Hems Brothers Mortuary and Chapel, 1975 Fourth St. in El Centro. A private reception will follow. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the James Gordon Ferrell Family Trust, 1440 Beaumont Ave. Ste. A2-191 Beaumont, CA 92223.
