July 3, 1937 - Sept. 10, 2012

John D. Bryant went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 10, 2012. He passed away unexpectedly at home in Stockton, MO. He was born July 3, 1937 in Stockton, Missouri to Billie and Imogene Bryant.
After high school he moved to Arizona to pursue his life-long passion as a cattleman. On December 16, 1967 two halves were made whole when he married the love of his life, Gloria Apodaca in Calexico, California. She survives of the home. They lived for many years on the Tamarack Feedyard Property in Calexico. Together they raised three children, John's proudest achievement, John Franklin, Kyle and Melinda. John enjoyed raising and training horses and working in the cattle business until his retirement in 2008. But he never left it behind him as he and Gloria decided to move back to his childhood hometown in Stockton to continue his dream of owning his own herd of cattle in 2010. Together with his brothers Thomas and Gary, he fulfilled that dream and enjoyed spending time working and visiting with family and friends.
John was a faithful and prayerful servant of God. He led a life filled with shining examples of his big heart and constant faith. John was a member of the Assembly of God Church and was church deacon for many years. He enjoyed working with 4-H and FFA groups, leading and helping young people with the care of animals. People sought out his incredible knowledge from near and far. Anyone needing information about horses, cattle, sheep and dogs knew that he would have an answer. His vast knowledge of equipment and machinery was unparalleled. John would often craft his own horse tack to accommodate the individual horse and rider needs. He studied to be a farrier at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in order to be self-sufficient in caring for his steeds.
John was never more content than when he was with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them compete and perform and was especially close to each and every one of them. Being able to be part of their lives was so important to him.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Bryant; son, John Franklin and Denise Bryant of Sedalia, Missouri; son, David Kyle Bryant of Holtville, California and daughter, Melinda and Matt Kitchen of Pittsburg, Kansas. He had seven grandchildren, Jordyn and Devyn Bryant, Tucker, Brett and Kyley Bryant, and Mikayla and Bryant Kitchen. Also surviving are his brothers and best friends, Thomas and Koeta Bryant of Pittsburg, Kansas and Gary and Arlene Bryant of Stockton, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale Bryant.
A memorial service celebrating his amazing life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Brumback Funeral Home in Stockton, Missouri. Burial will follow at the Stockton Cemetery. The family hopes to be able to conduct a memorial service in the Imperial Valley at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumback Funeral Home, 306 South High Street, Stockton, Missouri, 65785, 417-276-4214.
