JOSE (JOE) B. PICAZO
Oct. 15, 1927 - June 3, 2011
On June 3, at the young age of 83, Jose left this world in the comfort of his home to once again join his beautiful wife Amelia. He was born on October 15, 1927 in Dallas, Texas to Leon and Paula Picazo. In 1945 in Brawley, he met and married his wife Amelia. Together they raised five children. During the early years of marriage he worked in various trades until he found that concrete construction was what he enjoyed. In 1963, he and six friends started Pair-A-Dice Concrete Construction. Later, Jose and three of the original seven partners formed A-1 Concrete Construction where he continued until 2002 when he suffered a stroke that ended his working career.
Joe or "Cacho" as he was known was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Amelia, in 1987. He was also preceded in death by his stepson Robert Rios, a stepdaughter, Amelia Moreno, and grandchildren, Manuel Nieblas, Samuel Nieblas, George Myrick Jr., Darryl Myrick, Diana Sanchez, Yvonne Nieblas, and Fredrick Dominguez.
Joe is survived by his children, Emma (Picazo) Tracey and her husband William; Joe Picazo Jr. and his wife Carmen; David Picazo and his wife Teresa; Pauline Picazo; and Richard Picazo and his wife Irma; stepchildren Ed Rios and his wife Bertha; Frederick Rios; Adeline Dominguez; and Genevieve Nieblas. Cacho, leaves behind grandchildren, Sherry Picazo-Cowie and her husband Matt, Lisa Mayo and her husband Jerry (Cinco), George Jimenez, Mark Jimenez and his wife Jolene, Stephanie Picazo, Joshua Vela and his wife Sarah, Samantha Dail, Sammy Picazo, Amanda Picazo, Monica Picazo, Tiffany Garza, Jessica Goyhenetche and her husband James, Anthony Picazo, Edward Rios, Stephen Rios and his wife Saundra, Melinda Rodriguez, Yvonne Gonzalez, Bradley Tennant, Chris Tennant, John Moreno, Jr., Yvette Windham, George Moreno, Robert Moreno, Lauren Rios, Elizabeth Nieblas, Estella Nieblas, Pátty Nieblas, Esther Nieblas, Mimi Nieblas, Matthew Morales, as well as 30-plus great-grandchildren.
He will be missed greatly by all his family and friends but mostly by his children, who to the end, appreciated the words of wisdom he spoke and how he taught us all to be respectful and responsible men and women.
Viewing will take place Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro.
Services are scheduled for Saturday morning at 8:30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in El Centro. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
