Jose Isaac Grimaldo, a long time resident of Brawley, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Veterans Hospital in La Jolla after a lengthy illness.
"Joe" was born March 26, 1932 and attended local schools and graduated from Brawley Union High School. Son of a farm hand, he and the family followed the crops at an early age from Imperial Valley to Santa Clara Valley. He served in the Air Force and married Antonia Delgado on June 3, 1954. He was a soft-spoken, gentle man, a man of few words but when he spoke, everyone listened. He served in the Air Force from the 1950's to 1961, he was last stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, in the Search and Rescue Air Squadron. Upon his return to civilian life he worked for a local moving company until his retirement. He developed an interest in computers during his retirement years, enjoying doing research over the internet on various subjects and reading books. He was a devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose E. Grimaldo and mother, Angelita Grimaldo; his brothers, Nicholas Grimaldo and Arturo Grimaldo.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Antonia Grimaldo; sons, Joseph (Mona) Grimaldo of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Gregory (Michelle) Grimaldo of Jamul, Eric (Karen) Grimaldo of San Diego, Stephen Grimaldo of San Diego, Stepdaughters, "Chonita" of Ogden, Utah and Mary Helen (Russ) Broussard of San Diego; sisters, Virginia Grimaldo of Brawley, Aurora (Thomas) Perez of Brawley, and Esther (Dennis) Budiao of Royal Oaks, California; brothers, John (Mary) Grimaldo of Escondido, and Rudy Grimaldo (Rose) of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Jesse (Jolene) Grimaldo, Aaron, Reina, and Surya Grimaldo, all of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Sabylle Grimaldo of San Diego, Gregory Grimaldo, Jr. of Australia and Arryn (Joseph) Ayala of New York; a great-granddaughter, five nephews, eleven nieces and numerous grand nephews and grand nieces.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, 509 G Street in Brawley. Family and friends are invited to a catered lunch after the services.
