LAUREL DIANA SOBOLESKI THODY
Feb. 24, 1955 - Feb. 27, 2014
Laurel Diana Soboleski Thody passed away peacefully at Lisaard House, Cambridge, Canada, with her loving husband Robert by her side, holding her hand.
Laurel was born in San Diego, California, and raised in Brawley, CA. She attended Imperial Valley College and later went on to study at the United States International University in San Diego, where she achieved her Bachelor of Fine Art in dance. Laurel's love of dance and worshipping God led her to work with the Sacred Dance Group of Boulder, Colorado, and later she became a staff member of the dance school at Youth with a Mission in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
In Canada, Laurel met a charming British artist, Robert Thody, whom she married in 1987. They settled in Canada and raised their loved children, Sarah and Timothy.
Laurel's life passion was worshipping God through her gift of dance, which she surrendered to her God, and shared with her church community. Laurel served as an elder at the Cambridge Vineyard Fellowship for nine years and was made 'elder emeritus' when she decided to step down. She worked part-time as a Pilates instructor in Waterloo and as a dance instructor at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts.
Laurel has joined her parents Jerome Charles Soboleski and Eleanor Cleona Soboleski (nee Rutledge) in eternity. She will be dearly missed by her brother Anthony Jerome Soboleski and sister Natalie Lynn Karickhoff (nee Soboleski) and their families.
Laurel was well loved by her friends, who cheered her on as she walked through illness with unwavering faith and grace. All are welcome to attend a memorial service to celebrate Laurel's life Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at Cambridge Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 147 Elgin Street North, Galt, Ontario, N1R 1M8.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Lisaard House.
