Martha (Marty) Jane Preble Carter, 92 of El Centro/San Diego passed away at her home in Coronado early Tuesday morning, December 31, 2013. Marty was born in El Centro, CA March 12, 1921 and graduated from Central Union High School, and the University of Southern California. Following college graduation, she married James Herbert Carter and lived in Van Nuys until 1952, when they moved to El Centro. Throughout her life, Marty was involved with the Barbara Worth Country Club Women's Golf Association, Women's Ten Thousand Club, PEO, and a variety of Bridge groups. Although she thoroughly enjoyed her involvement in these organizations, her greatest love was for her family and friends. She is most remembered for her endless entertainment with the "Boombass", great wit and laughter, always having "Fritos" and a warm, welcoming home.
Marty was preceded in death by her husband, James Carter.
She leaves behind her loving partner, John Kearney, daughters, Sally (Tim) Crabtree of San Diego, CA; Paula (Matt) Crabtree of Salinas, CA; five grandchildren, TJ (Arlene) MacCartee, of San Diego, CA, Patrick MacCartee, of San Francisco, Carter (Thomas) Purcell, of Rancho Santa Fe, Aimee Cannon of Salinas, CA and Alex (Katie) Cannon of Salinas, CA; five great- grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bahia Resort, Shell Room, Mission Beach, on January 25th, from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimer's Research Fund or Sharp Hospice, San Diego, CA.
