MAX OTTO RUEGGER
May 13, 1927 - June 26, 2012
Max Otto Ruegger, 85, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Max was born on May 13, 1927 in rural Westmorland to Otto and Frieda Ruegger. Max graduated from Brawley Union High School. He played football and was student body president. He joined the U.S. Navy following graduation in June 1945. When he returned home after his service, he attended the University of California at Davis and received an Associate Degree in Agriculture. Max couldn't wait to get home to help his father on the farm. On June 11, 1955 he married Mary Kubler. They were married for 57 years.
Max served on the Westmorland School Board for many years and later was a board member of Pioneer's Memorial Hopsital for 24 years. He served as a church elder/president of Trinity Lutheran Church. His passion was farming. He never retired, and he remained active in his business until recently.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters, Lisa Marianne and Jennifer Joy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruegger, and their children, Max Jr. (MaryAnn) Ruegger of Indanapolis, IN, Fritz Ruegger of Brawley, Karin (Weldon) Sims of Fallbrook, and Paul Ruegger of Riverside. He is also survived by grandchildren Katharine and Isabel Ruegger, Hannah, Rebecca, and David Sims, and sister, Elizabeth (Roger) Beed of Newberg, OR.
Graveside services for Max will be held on Saturday, July 7 at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley at 7 a.m.
