Dec. 11, 1913 - Sept. 13, 2012

Pauline Hawk passed into Heaven peacefully on September 13, 2012 at the age of 98 in her Point Loma home, lovingly surrounded by family and caregivers. She was born into the large family of Chilton and Nora Myrick on December 11, 1913 in Nash, Texas. Pauline grew up in the village of Nash, across the road from her beloved Baptist Church, where she played the piano for the congregation from a very early age. After high school, she attended junior college and taught school in Texas. On a trip, to visit her sister Nola in Holtville, CA, she met Robert J. (Bob) Hawk in her sister's country store. They were married in 1938 and she and Bob made their home in the country south of Holtville.
She followed Bob to Hawaii in 1941, where his engineering skills were used in building bomb storages and roads. They were together in the hills above Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked the navy base on December 7, 1941. Upon their return to the United States mainland in 1942, Pauline volunteered to be a look-out from a neighboring farm's water tower in the event of further Japanese attacks.
Near the end of the war, she and Bob started a family of five children. As their children grew to school age, she began teaching at the Imperial Valley elementary schools of Jasper Alamitos and then Meadows Union, as she obtained her Bachelor's Degree and teaching credential in education at San Diego State University. She spent most of her teaching career at Meadows Union, where she taught First Grade and Kindergarten and always insisted on having a piano in her room whereby she enhanced student learning. She is lovingly remembered by her students to this day. She retired in 1984.
From her earliest days in Imperial Valley, she became active in the Presbyterian Church of El Centro, as well as the local Republican Party, through which she personally met both Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. She was a strong supporter of the . She also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends.
