THOMAS J. MENNING

Thomas James Menning was born on March 9, 1927 and died on September 17, 2013.
Raised in Pasadena, California, Tom entered the US Navy in 1945 and later attended the University of Arizona. He married his beloved wife Joan in 1949. Together they moved to West Covina, California, to raise their five children and Tom commuted to downtown Los Angeles to work for General Petroleum. After his years at GP, Tom went to work for the West Covina Unified School District and then went into private business at Redi-Rain in Upland, California. After the sale of Redi-Rain, he began his venture in the agriculture industry. In 1978, Tom opened Farm Irrigation Equipment Supply, Inc., which serves the Coachella Valley, Imperial Valley, Arizona and Mexico. He worked there until his retirement.
He and his wife Joan moved to Rancho Mirage in 1982 where they enjoyed life with their dear friends at The Springs. Tom was known for his smile, his love of singing and swimming. In the summer, you could always find him in the surf somewhere. In the winter, he enjoyed the mountains of Sun Valley, Idaho.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; children Thomas Menning Jr. (Marissa), Lee Ann Shoop (Paul), Kathleen Menning, James Menning and Jeffrey Menning (Sonia). He was "Papa" to ten grandchildren, Tracey Freebury, Travis Ronkainen, Taylor Shoop, Evan Taranta, Madison Shoop, Logan Shoop, Brooke Menning, Thomas Menning III, Jeffrey Menning, Tanner Menning and three great- grandchildren, Ella Freebury, Dylan Freebury and Cardiff Taranta.
