WILLIAM E. "BILL" HOSLER, JR.
May 30, 1929- May 5, 2005
William E. "Bill" Hosler, Jr., 75, passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 5 as a result of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Bill was born on May 30, 1929 in Niagara Falls, New York. He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and his MBA degree from Babson College in Wellesley Hills, MA.
In 1952, Bill was commissioned at the Officers Candidate School (Infantry) at Ft. Benning, GA. He served as an infantry platoon leader and as a Psychological Warfare Officer with the 8th U.S. Army in Seoul, South Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Korean Wharang Cross for meritorious service during the conflict.
Bill moved to Scottsdale in 1979 in order to join United Bank of Arizona (subsequently acquired by Citibank, NA) serving as a vice president of the bank's personal banking group. He retired in 1991.
Since retirement, Bill, an avid golfer who belonged to the Arizona Country Club and the PGA Tournament Players Club in Scottsdale, played golf and fished as he and Ellie Kussman motorhomed throughout the United States and Canada. Bill was a 40 year member of Rotary International and Past President of the Niagara Falls Rotary Club.
Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law William E. and Mary Pat Hosler III; his daughter and son-in-law Eleanor (Nell) and Elliott Beattie of Beverly Hills, MI; brother Robert L. Hosler of Scottsdale, AZ; and three grandchildren. He will be missed by long time companion Eleanor (Ellie) Kussman of El Centro, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and David Collins and sons; and daughter Kristine Kussman and sons.
Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 8th and Olive in El Centro on June 1, 2005 at 9 a.m. Interment will be private.
