May 30, 1908 - June 15, 2013

Wilma McElvany passed away peacefully on June 15, 2013, in San Diego CA, surrounded by family members. She lived a long vibrant life. She was 105 years old, and last resided at the Vintage Village Assisted Living Home in El Centro.
Wilma and her twin brother Bill, were born in Blythville, Arkansas on May 30, 1908. They were the children of Sam and Sara Bailey. The Bailey family moved to the Imperial Valley in 1912. The early childhood and young adult life of Wilma was in the Holtville area. She graduated from Holtville High School in 1928. After marriage to the love of her life James L. McElvany, they moved to El Centro where they began raising their family of four boys. She worked very close with her husband in the family business, McElvany Drain Tile installation. Wilma was very active in the Eastern Star and White Shrine. She will be especially remembered for love of family and her love of baking, canning, knitting and other crafts she enjoyed. Her family will remember the wonderful fried chicken dinners she prepared. Always enough to share with family and friends.
Wilma was predeceased by her parents, San and Sara Bailey; brothers, Raymond, Bill, Elgin, Lucius; and her sisters, Midge Hudgins and Mildred Richards; husband, James Leon; son, David; and grandson, Rickie.
Survivors include her three sons, Don (Pat), Isaac (Helen), Carl (Marge); grandchildren, Sandra, Gregory, Susan, Charles, Cindy, Debbie, Carl Jr., Lisa; and many great and great- great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilma was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., July 13, 2013 at the First Christian Church, 450 South Waterman Ave, El Centro.
