Maria Hilda Marquez, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away of natural causes Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the age of 64, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born November 27, 1949 in Brawley and was married to Hector Manuel Marquez. Maria Hilda graduated from Brawley Union High School in 1968 and received her Associates degree in business from Imperial Valley College. In 1985 she began her career as a para-educator with Brawley Elementary School District. She touched the lives of many kindergarteners at Hidalgo and Witter schools for 23 years before retiring in 2008.
Maria Hilda enjoyed reading, working on puzzles, drawing and sewing. She also enjoyed listening and dancing to "oldies but goodies" and cumbias. Her most treasured moments were spent with and around her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria del Refugio Magdaleno.
Maria Hilda is survived by her father, Jose Magdaleno; husband of 43 years, Hector Marquez Sr.; daughters, Anna Urias and son-in-law, Ralph Urias and Maritza Marquez Lopez; sons, Hector Marquez Jr. and Martin Marquez; sisters, Rosa and Becky Magdaleno; brother, Joe Magdaleno; 14 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaugh- ter.
Visitation and rosary will be held on Sunday, April 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley with Father Eddie Ruiz officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery, also in Brawley.
