Gertrude Alexander passed away peacefully on June 26, 2014 with her family by her side.
She was born on November 14, 1921 in Chihuahua, Mexico. Gertrude moved to Brawley, CA with her family at a very young age. She attended school in Brawley. She married her loving husband Thomas J. Alexander who preceded her in death in 1986. She and her husband owned and worked together in the Brawley Television Shop for several years where she was in charge of the office and sales. After a few years of having the shop located at West Main Street they purchased property and opened up their own store at 1048 Main Street in Brawley in 1968. They had their store until they retired in 1983. She belonged to the Soroptimist Club and attended Sacred Heart Church. Her hobbies were traveling, gardening and she enjoyed cooking and baking very much. She was known for her great Sunday dinners and barbecues.
This exceptional lady, a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Alexander, her son Thomas James Alexander Jr.; brother Margarito Coronado Jr.; sister Delores Cota; Father Margarito Coronado, and mother Susana Coronado.
She is survived by her daughter, Delia Saikhon of Brawley; son, Mark Alexander (Connie) of Brawley; grandchildren Arthur Saikhon (Karen) of El Centro, Derrick Saikhon of Brawley, James Alexander of Yuma, AZ, Julie Alexander of Laguna Niguel, Robbie George of Denver, CO, Michael George of Ridgewood, NJ; great-grandchildren, Tessa and Talia Saikhon of San Diego, Tamarim Taiana, Tyler and Tahnee Saikhon of El Centro; sisters, Julia Rodriguez of Corona, Rose Hidalgo of San Juan Capistrano. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley, CA. Service will be held on Thursday , July 3, 2014 at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Brawley. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery.
