Frances "Panchita" Alvarado passed peacefully at home on February 7, 2011. She was 84 years old.
Panchita was born in Peoria, AZ on October 10, 1926 but lived her life in Calexico. Frances was a lifetime homemaker, mother to 6 children: daughters, Rosemary Pesl (Gene) and Angie Ochoa (Lito), and sons, Peter (Blanca), Raymond (Debbie), Pinky (Alicia) and Ricardo (Marti). She was also Gramma to 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was active in the Calexico Bulldog Booster Club for 25 years. Panchita was also very active in the Calexico community and will be remembered as being "always a Bulldog". She was also an essential part of the Calexico Dolphin swim team. Panchita cared for and cheered on all of her Dolphin swimmers to whom she was always "Gramma" for over 10 years.
Her family loved her to no end and she was also loved by countless others, whom she loved equally and in return was accepted by all as their "Gramma".
At family gatherings, Gramma would always be the life of the party and her barbacoa and salsa were addictive.
Pedro and his beloved "Negra" were married for 66 wonderful years. She passed peacefully at home with her beloved "Alvarado" by her side.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 13 at 6 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in Calexico.
A Celebration of Life Service is planned for February 14th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Calexico at 9 a.m. with internment to follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Calexico.
