Fritz T. Heuberger, 85, of Holtville, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 of cancer at his home in Holtville.
Fritz was born on April 21, 1928 in Boezen, Switzerland, a small farming community, to Louise and Traugott Heuberger. The family included two sisters, Elisabeth, who died a few years ago and Trudy who still resides in Buchs, Switzerland. He was educated in Boezen and then entered a trade school in cabinetry earning a master cabinet certificate. He also worked in heavy construction in building highways in Switzerland before immigrating to the United States in early 1960.
When he first arrived in Holtville he worked on his uncle's farm southeast of Holtville. However he soon began applying his craft as a carpenter building numerous custom homes for various people in Holtville and El Centro. Still wanting to be a farmer he also began his own farming operations and worked with Strahm Farms for many years while farming his own land and still building homes. He and his wife Leni were members of the Imperial Valley Swiss Club where he served as President and also took charge of the renovation of the Club Hall in the early 80s. He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. In later years he spent much of his time traveling back and forth to Switzerland where he still owned the family farm and home, and visiting friends that he grew up with.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
He is survived by his wife, Leni Heuberger; son, Jurg Heuberger (Joanne); grandsons, Nick Heuberger (Shannon), Christian Heuberger (Terri), Nick Yeager; granddaughter, Jill Heuberger; sister, Trudy Miotti; great- grandchildren, Mason Heuberger and Leigha Heuberger.
Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Joel Meyer in Holtville.
