MARCO ANTONIO COBARRUVIA
July 5, 1946 - Jan. 21, 2014
Marco Antonio Cobarruvia, born 5th of July 1946, courageously battled cancer and finally departed on his own terms at 7:10 January 21st, 2014 with his family by his side.
Born in Mexicali, he grew up in Calexico and graduated Calexico High School in 1964. He later earned his Associates Degree from Imperial Valley College.
He had an infectious personality that drew people towards him and gained him friendships wherever he went. He loved to strike up conversations and share his wisdom with you.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of nearly 40 years, Maria Alma Cobarruvia, two wonderful daughters Brenda Coronado and Mirella "Mimi" Cobarruvia, 2 handsome grandsons, Diego and Maximo Coronado and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.
He was a veteran of two wars, and served his country for over 40 years. Marco served for 21 years, 1 month and 1 day as active duty military in the US Navy where he earned numerous medals and awards including 2 National Defense Service Medals, the Vietnam Service Medal and 5 good conduct medals. He served an additional 20 years of service as a safety officer for the Department of the Navy at NAF El Centro.
He proudly said he traveled the world and sailed the 7 seas on the government's dime and was stationed in San Diego, CA where his first daughter was born as well as Honolulu, Hawaii where his second daughter was born.
