Mr. Joe Roark

Joe Roark passed quietly and peacefully from this life on October 30 2012 following a short illness. His final hours were spent at home, surrounded by family.

Born in 1933, Joe was raised on Bellview Farm in Malesus, TN. He graduated from Malesus High School, attended West Tennessee Business College and, briefly, Union University. He studied cotton classification in Memphis. Joe and his youngest brother, Homer, continued to farm and raise cattle until the end of his life.

Joe's entire career of over 40 years was spent with the Bemis Brother Bag Co., from early days at the cotton gin to later years as manager for the Fiber Department. He was a member of the Malesus Baptist Church, and attended both the Malesus Baptist and Methodist churches during his lifetime. He was a Charter and dedicated member of the Bemis Historical Society, where he served several terms as Treasurer, and a Charter member of the South Madison County Jaycees.

Those who knew Joe will remember him best for his jovial and infectious laughter, his sterling work ethic, kindness to others and commitment to family. He will be best remembered as a beloved husband and father.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, William F. and Ina Warren Roark of Malesus, and two brothers, Bill Roark of Americus, GA and John Roark of Rocky Face, GA.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mattie Sue Johnson Roark; daughter, Anita Ruth (Michael); sons, Allen (Gina) and Andy (April); brother, Homer Roark; five step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
