Dr. Paul E. Williams
Dr. Paul E. Williams, age 85 of Jackson, TN, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN.
Funeral services for Dr. Williams will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 3:30 p.m., at Englewood Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery, with George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in charge.
Rev. Williams was born on March 22, 1927 to the late John and Estelle Williams. He was a graduate of Union University in Jackson, TN and later pursued additional studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, LA. He received the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity from Union University in 1981.
Throughout his life of ministry, Bro. Paul as he was known, served in the ministry in churches in West Tennessee and in Louisville, KY. He served as pastor of Englewood Baptist Church for fourteen years, and in March 2003, he was elected Pastor Emeritus, where he faithfully served as pastoral minister until his death.
Bro. Paul always had a heart for the sick and he tirelessly visited church members at home and in the hospital. He also loved mentoring young ministers and served as Director of Supervised Ministries at Union University from 1992-2001. He was affectionately known as The Pastor of Pastors.
He believed in the Power of Prayer and gave leadership to the Intercessory Prayer Ministry at Englewood Baptist Church.
He served as interim pastor for seventeen churches in West Tennessee after the age of 65, and he considered it a great privilege to be able to help these churches grow.
Bro. Paul loved the Bible and one of his favorite passages was Psalm 27, which includes "The Lord is the stronghold of my life."
Truly, Bro. Paul's life was a life well lived for the Lord. Along with his wife, Mildred, the love of his life and faithful partner in ministry. He touched countless lives and did so with a spirit of humility and grace.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Neely Williams; daughters, Paulette Ivey and Pam Guthrie; sons-in-law, George Ivey and Mark Guthrie; grandchildren, Graham and Neely Guthrie.
Visitation with the family of Bro. Paul will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., at Englewood Baptist Church.
