Mr. William Louis Deere
William Louis Deere, age 102 and eleven months, passed away on the evening of Saturday, May 31. He was born in the Rock Hill community to Annie Hesse Deere and Joe Allen Deere. He joins five generations of his family interred in the Rock Hill Cemetery. He became a member of the Rock Hill Baptist Church ninety years ago and was a staunch supporter over the many years. He loved Rock Hill and its people and never wanted to be anywhere else.
He is survived by his wife, Ophelia Hall Deere; his son, William J. Deere; grandchildren, William M. Deere, Rebecca Deere Boscarino, Phillip Bryant and Jeffery Bryant; great grandchildren,Daniel Lee, Chris Lee, Stephanie Bryant Powell, Trent Bryant and Stefanie Boscarino; great great grandson, Brody Powell.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Mae Graves Deere; his daughter, Cornelia Bryant; his granddaughter, Sherry Bryant Lee.
For many years he was employed as a construction superintendent and contractor. He specialized in concrete bridge construction, and a long-time employer said that he was the best bridge man in Tennessee. During all those years, he never lost touch with his real love, farming in Rock Hill. He was an extremely generous and moral man who contributed greatly to this family and community. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1929 and briefly attended UT Martin.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Charles White, Sr. for over forty years of quality medical care and to the owners and staff at Northcliff Assisted Living who provided him with exceptional, loving care during his declining years.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Rock Hill Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Rock Hill Cemetery.
