Jean Pullen Measells

Jean Pullen Measells passed away on April 15, 2013.

Born on April 14, 1924 in French Camp, MS to the late Ruth and Lester Pullen, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John Walsh Measells and her brother, Mardis Pullen of Terry, MS. After attending Holmes Junior College, she worked at South Central Bell in Jackson, MS where she met her husband at a USO Dance after he had served in WWII. After moving to Jackson, TN for her husband to pursue his career in agricultural meteorology at the University of Tennessee Experiment Station, she became a full time wife, mother and volunteer.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women, where she used her talents and skills in gardening, arranging flowers and serving others. She was a member of the Jackson Garden Club and several bridge clubs. She spent many happy hours boating with her family and friends while helping teach others to water ski. She was an excellent slalom skier until her late 60's.

After her children were grown, she returned to work and retired from the Tennessee Department of Employment Security. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law from Nashville, Diane Jones (Myers) and Brenda Dowdle (Glynn); her granddaughters, Natalie Dickinson (Paul), Alexa Jones, Maegan Manning (Chase) and Allison Dowdle; her sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Pullen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many friends in Jackson and at NHC Place in Brentwood, where she lived the last year and a half. She will be greatly missed, for a Godly wife, mother and friend is a precious gift from God.

Private Interment for the family members will be at Ridgecrest Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 20, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 1573 North Highland Ave. at 1 p.m., with Pastor John White officiating. Visitation will immediately follow at Memorial Hall of First Presbyterian Church.
