Leon L. Harris
Funeral services for Mr. Leon Harris, age 86, will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Dr. Clinton Buck officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Springs Cemetery in Henderson County with Military Rites.
Mr. Harris died October 4, 2013 at Northbrooke Health Care.
He was born in Madison County to the late A. H. Harris and Nola Butler Harris. Mr. Harris was a graduate of West TN Business College; served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was co-owner of Buck and Harris TV sales and service. After retiring from there he owned a sawmill woodworking business. He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as secretary of Sunday School, and was a member of senior XYZ, and the Challenger class. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and helped organize Troop 203 at Pope School, which recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing and Alaska trips with his son, Michael.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his son; Commander (Ret.) Michael L. Harris in 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alivene Buck Harris; daughter-in -law, Misky Harris of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Leahman Harris and wife Eliza; nephew, Robert T. Harris and wife Amy all of Beech Bluff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Baird-Buck Endowment for the Chair of Cumberland Presbyterian Studies at Memphis Theological Seminary, 168 E. Parkway South, Memphis, TN 38104-4395; or the choice of the donor.
