Graveside services for Paul Wesley Gurley, age 102, will be conducted 12 noon, Monday, April 29, 2013 at Highland Memorial Gardens with Ministers of First United Methodist Church of Jackson officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons.
Mr. Gurley, a retired salesman, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Jackson Oaks. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Laura Russell/Tri-Mu Sunday School class. His hobbies included golf and bowling. He was on a bowling league for many years and participated in Senior Olympics several times. He was a member of the United States Army Air Corps, serving overseas during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Gurley was born in the Independence Community on April 4, 1911. He was married to Callie Mae Terry who preceded him in death. Others preceding him in death were his parents, George Washington and Callie Autry Gurley, as well as two brothers and a sister, Wilburn Autry Gurley, J.D. Gurley and Estelle Holland.
Mr. Gurley is survived by a daughter, Paula Butler and husband Mike of Jackson; grandson, Michael Butler and wife Wallis of Franklin, TN; granddaughter, Allison Fallin and husband Tony of Kingsport, TN; six great grandchildren, Connor, Leah, and Anna Falin and Wesley Anne, Campbell and Ella Butler.
Mr. Gurley was a devoted Christian and loved his church. His kind and gentle spirit touched the lives of many people.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Jackson.
