Mrs. Wanda Townsend Conger of Parsons, TN, retired postal clerk with the United States Postal Service, died Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, 210 Tennessee Avenue South in Parsons on Sunday, March 3rd at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Parsons City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, March 2nd from 3 p.m to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 12 Noon until time for services.
Wanda was born May 3, 1946 in Memphis, TN. Her parents were Hilda Primm Townsend and Leonard Obie Townsend, whose families were early settlers of Decatur County, TN, preceded her in death. She was educated in the Parsons, TN schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1963.
Her husband, Charles Ray Conger, preceded her in death. Her son, Robert (Leah) of Gallatin, Tennessee survive.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Parsons, serving for many years as church organist and in other capacities in the music ministry and church committees. She was a member and past president of the Parsons Library and Museum Community Life Advisory Council, and was a charter member of the Decatur County Historical Society. Wanda was dedicated to preserving the heritage of her home town of Parsons. Members of the Parsons High School Class of 1963 are requested to sit together as Honorary Pallbearers at the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the City of Parsons Library and Museum Council, P.O. Box 128, Parsons, TN. 38363. Parsons Mortuary is in charge of services.
