James Thomas Walker
James Thomas Walker, 81 years of age, born January 14, 1933.
Loving husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his father, Dewey Franklin Walker and mother, Jewell Summar Walker.
Mr. Walker was born in Jackson, TN. He graduated from North Side High School and West Tennessee Business College.
Mr. Walker served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Shortly after his military service, he moved to Florida where he became the owner and operator of a successful small business, Deland Saw Sales and Service, providing lawn and garden power equipment throughout the central Florida area. Mr. Walker served as Chairman of Deacons for the First Baptist Church of Orange City, FL and was an officer in the local chapter of the Christian Business Men's Committee (CBMC). After retirement, he enjoyed travelling with his wife June, hunting and woodworking. He returned to Tennessee in 1998, making the Jackson area his home once again. Mr. Walker was a member of Souls Harbor Baptist Church in Medina.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, June Rhodes Walker; sons, Johnny, Roger and Billy; grandchildren, Joanna and Jackie Walker, Heather Brown, Mistina Johnson, Jaime Greene; great-grandchildren, Lexie and Walker Johnson, Ethan and Eli Brown, Bailey and Beckett Greene; and brother Ray. He leaves behind a legacy as a hard working, strong willed, Christian man who loved family, friends and his faithful and loyal golden retriever, "J".
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Souls Harbor Baptist Church, with services following visitation at 2:45 p.m. at the same venue, with Pastor Mark Gabert presiding. Souls Harbor Baptist Church is located on South Main Street, Medina, TN 38355. Mr. Walker will be laid to rest at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison County, TN.
