James E. "Hooty" Heavner

Services for James E. "Hooty" Heavner, age 79, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home, with Brother Tracy Snider officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.

Mr. Heavner passed away February 18, 2014 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Hooty was born in Jackson on February 10, 1935. He owned and operated several successful businesses in and around Jackson in his lifetime, and retired as an independent truck owner/operator.

He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Oakley Heavner; mother, Etta Carlene "Whitworth" Heavner; and brothers, Frank Oakley, Jr. and Richard Oakley Heavner.

Hooty is survived by former wife and companion, Nickie Heavner; children, Rick Heavner and wife Judi of Jackson, Randy Heavner and wife Celia of Jackson, and Jason Heavner and wife Amanda of Oxford, MS; brothers, Carl, Robert and Jerry Wayne Heavner; sisters, Ruth Anne Heavner, Sandra King, Carol Glover, Judy Deloach and Debbie Parker Heavner; grandchildren, Chase Heavner, Carol Heavner and Lyric Heavner, and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the service will be Tommy Webb, Anthony Heavner, Dennis McLemore, Jack Hornsby, John Hornsby and Dale Blankenship.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at the funeral home.
