Betsy Lou Brooks

Funeral Services for Betsy Lou Brooks, age 59, will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11 a.m., at Mt. Pleasant CME Church. Her remains will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the Parkway Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Brooks passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at JMCGH.

She attended Lane College in Jackson, TN and received a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1976. In 1979 she received a Masters in Library Science from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. She was honor to have her thesis "Library Services for the Disadvantaged" to become a publication at Ball State University. Also, she attended Belmont Art Academy in Nashville, TN and was enrolled in "Singing techniques for all ages", "Puppetry" and "Creative dance: movements for music".

Ms. Brooks was employed at various institutions of higher education: Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, TN from 1986 until 1989; Lane College in Jackson, TN from 1984 until 1986; West Tennessee Legal Service in Jackson, TN from 1984 until 1986. Also, she was employed with the Fayette Co. Board of Education from 1979 until 1983, 1994 until 1995 and Jackson Madison Co. School System from 1992 until 1994.

She was an accomplished organist, bellist, pianist and percussionist.

She leaves to cherish her memory 3 sisters, Alberta B. Redd of Charleston, MO, Geneva B. Tucker and Pearla M. Brooks, both of Jackson, TN; and 1 sister-in-law, Alberta Brooks of Jackson, TN.

Open visitation will begin Friday morning from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Family Hour will begin at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Bledsoe Funeral Home Chapel.
