Mrs. Dorothy Pope Douglass

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Pope Douglass, age 102, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Rev. Larry Daniel, Howard Douglass, and David Hinson officiating. Interment will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Pafford Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Douglass was born July 6, 1911 in Uriah, Alabama to the late W.F. and Katie Bigland Pope. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church since 1929, where she was a member of the Deborah Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing bridge and loved children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid U.T. Women's Basketball fan and enjoyed LHS football. She and her husband presented the Best Blocker Award for LHS Football for the last 48 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ben Douglass, Sr.; her two brothers, Lorenz and Murrell Pope; one grandchild, Greg Douglass.

Survivors include her two sons, Ben Douglass, Jr. and Howard F. (Lana) Douglass; her daughter, Nancy D. (the late Wayne) Hinson all of Lexington; three sisters, Doris Hodge and Louise Stegall of Jackson, and Norma Jean (Den) Gaines of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Veronica) Douglass, Jim (Cindy) Douglass, Molly (Jim) Elkins, David Hinson, Steve (Carolyn) Hinson, Jack (Jane) Hinson, Dee Dee Wallace and Chelsea Douglass; seventeen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. and on Thursday, 9-11 a.m. at Pafford Funeral Home, (731) 968-2544
