Juanita Jacqueline Sparks Matthews

Funeral services for Mrs. Juanita Jacqueline Sparks Matthews, age 94, will be at 1 p.m., Friday, August 1, 2014 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Cagle officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Matthews died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at N.E.A. Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

She was born in Berry, Alabama to the late Riley Marshall Sparks and Brazzie Lou Logan Sparks. She married William May Matthews on April 19, 1942. Mrs. Matthews worked as a florist and beautician, worked at the Bemis Mill, was a sales clerk for John E. Parker and was a homemaker. She was in the U.S. Women's Army Corps (WAC) and was stationed on Staten Island, NY during World War II. She was a member of the Malesus Baptist Church. Mrs. Matthews was devoted to her family and loved her church.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her husband, William May Matthews of Monette, AR; her daughter, Judy McGrath and husband Dr. Joe McGrath of Jonesboro, AR; her sisters, Carol Robinson of Folsom, CA and Betty Hickman of Meridian, MS; her grandchildren, Camille Renshaw of Brooklyn, NY, Heather Vucetin and husband Petar of San Francisco, CA, Denny Renshaw and wife Leigh of Brooklyn, NY; great grandchildren, Vivian Kate Renshaw, Marko and Luka Vucetin.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. til 1 p.m., Friday at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home, (731) 424-2424
