Bobby Jack Houston, age 78 of Parsons, TN, passed away Monday, July 28th, at Decatur Co. General Hospital after a sudden illness.
Jack was a 1953 graduate of Parsons High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army where he served his country for 2 years. Jack grew up in the Bear Creek Community where he remained, except for his military time. He was always very active in Bear Creek Baptist Church where he served in many capacities over the years including Sunday School Superintendant, Music Director, Youth Director, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Jack was always interested in music, even at an early age. He sang with several of his family members including his mother, father, aunts and uncles. He sang several years with the Jubilaires from Beech Bluff and the Deep South Quartet from Savannah. He was always involved with the music at church, helping in the choir and encouraging the young people there to use their talents for the Lord.
He worked many years for Graves Supermarket in Parsons and after fire closed the business in 1981, Jack and his cousin, Doug McCormick, bought the store and opened as Liberty Supermarket. Jack retired from the grocery business in 1995.
Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patty Houston of Parsons; two sons, Gary (Ann) Houston of Bartlett, Patrick (Amy) Houston of Hendersonville; by 5 grandchildren he loved dearly, Kailey, Caleb, Will, Laura and Kate Houston; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Woody) Tubbs of Parsons; brother-in-law, Lee (Gail) Arrington of Decaturville; special nieces and nephews, Susan Rogers, Amy Price, Bruce Arrington and David Rogers, as well as several close relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Royce and Beulah Houston, and a niece, Abby Donahoe.
His funeral service will be held at Bear Creek Baptist Church, Parsons, TN at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 31st, with Bro. Tracy McCormick and Bro. Michael Crandall officiating. Burial will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, 11 a.m. until service at the church.
