Charles Avery III

Charles Porter Avery III, age 61, passed away July 29, 2014.

Mr. Avery was honorably discharged from the United States Army as a First Lieutenant. He retired in 2013, after 18 years of service as an engineer with FedEx and 19 years at Dover Elevator. A 1970 graduate of Jackson High School and a 1974 graduate of UT Martin, he continued his education at University of Memphis, where he earned his Master's Degree.

Mr. Avery was preceded in death by his father, Charles Porter Avery II, and survived by his loving wife, Lesa Mercer Avery; children, Emily Kalmon (Nathan) and Chris Avery; mother, Mamie Meriwether Avery; sister, Mary Milton (Russ) and granddaughter, Hailey Kalmon. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son who will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service begins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 2nd at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to either West Clinic or Methodist Hospice Residence.
