Nina Lou May Jones

Funeral services for Mrs. Nina Lou May Jones, age 73, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Beech Bluff United Methodist Church, with Rev. Diane Harrison officiating, assisted by Rev. Hiram Harrison. Burial will follow in Beech Bluff Cemetery. Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jones died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

She was born January 5, 1938 in Beech Bluff, TN to the late Sam May and Sallie Mae Stedman May. She was married on July 15, 1956 to Mr. Alvin Jones and they made their home in the Beech Bluff Community.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Beech Bluff United Methodist Church, where she had been involved with the Methodist Women, was a former Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She was a Board Member of the Beech Bluff Cemetery, secretary of the Woodmen of the World Lodge #293 and a National Representative for the Woodmen of the World. Mrs. Jones was secretary of the Beech Bluff Ruritan Club, a member of the Beech Bluff Home Demonstration Club and was a former secretary at Beech Bluff High School. She had worked at the Beech Bluff Post Office and was co-writer with her brother, Murray May, of a book entitled 'Bout Beech Bluff.

Mrs. Jones had a passion for the Beech Bluff Community and was Life Chairman of the Beech Bluff Parade. She loved scrapbooking, snow skiing, cooking, baking, cake decorating, canning, the outdoors and being at her home at the river. She loved spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Sallie May; two brothers, Sherley May and Murray May, and two sisters, Helen Bell and Mary Gibson.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Alvin Jones of Beech Bluff; two sons, Al Jones and wife Betty of Jackson, and Brad Jones and wife Paula of Beech Bluff; three grandchildren, Ty Jones and wife Ashlie of Jackson, and Bradley Jones and Phalon Jones, both of Beech Bluff; a great-grandchild, Barrett Jones of Jackson and several loving nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ray Reams, David Holifield, Greg Stewart, Steve Miller, Scott Bradford and Sammie Crews, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Jones' nephews, Bill Bell, Sammy Bell, Tom Bell, Jim May, Ted May, Eddie Arnold, Johnny Arnold and Bob May.

The family requests any memorials be directed to the Beech Bluff United Methodist Church or the Beech Bluff Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family at the church today from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
