Mary Hazel Rhodes Staples

Funeral services for Hazel Staples will be at the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Mrs. Staples was born in Madison County on May 9, 1924, daughter of the late Virgil Dallas and Bertha Rhodes.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, L.T. Staples, Jr.; daughters, Sandra Hornsby (Jack) and Ann McLeary (Raymond); sons, Ricky Staples and Russell Staples; eight grandchildren, Jill Wade, Judy Hoover, Kelly Pittman, Mike McLeary, Angela Gresham, Holley Staples, Adam Staples and Aricia Staples; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, James (Dusty) Rhodes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, William, Virgil and Charles.

Hazel was a loving and caring person, full of love for her family and friends. One of her many talents was taking care of others with her gentle touch, sweet smile, sense of humor, and her wonderful desserts. She loved her family and friends,, and has been an inspiration to all who try to follow her example.

Pallbearers to serve are nephews, Ronald Wells, Kenneth (Bud) Wells, Burt Staples, Melvin Staples, Randy Staples and Phillip Staples.

A special thanks to WTHC Hospice and to Home Instead for all of their loving care while taking care of Hazel.
