Funeral services for Rev. Dr. Joseph Andrew Boles will be Monday, September 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at New St. Luke Baptist Church, 1670 N. Royal St., Jackson, TN 38301, with Pastor James I. Woods and Pastor Clarence Williams Sr. officiating. Burial will take place at Douglas Chapel CME Church Cemetery in Stanton, Tennessee. Visitation and Family hour will be held on Sunday at Mercer Brothers Funeral Home from 3:00 pm until 6 p.m. The remains of Dr. Boles will lie-in-state on Monday morning at New St. Luke Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Rev. Dr. Joseph Andrew Boles was born February 27, 1923 to Charlie and Alma (Catron) Bowles in Brownsville, Tennessee. Dr. Boles departed this life on Monday, September 23, 2013. God gave him 90 years of blessed living.

Dr. Boles leaves to cherish his memories: His wife Cathy; Three sons: Rev. Joseph A. Boles Jr.; Rev. Anthony Boles both of Tacoma, WA; Rev. Eric Boles, Lakewood, WA; One daughter Joan Walker, Cleveland, OH; One deceased daughter Zeberlena Campbell; One brother Harvey (Mildred) Bowles, Brownsville, TN; One sister Betty (Calvin) Douglas, Stanton, TN; Sister in-laws: Gladys Bowles, Stanton, TN; Girlean Bowles Wiley, Somerville, TN; Ovallye Boles, Shaker Heights, OH; Lurline Bowles, Jackson, TN; He is also survived by twelve (12) grandchildren, twenty eight (28) great grandchildren, and twenty three (23) great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loved ones that will always remember his guidance, love, support, thoughtfulness, and the wonderful life he lived.

Lady Cathy, you are such an HUMBLE and GODLY lady. You did not mind sharing such a Gentle Servant of God with us all. He took the time to share his love with all of his flock. He was a true Shepherd. I'm going to miss my dear friend and mentor Dr. Boles. He was so kind to me when I had been called to preach in 1977 and took me under his wing at General Baptist Convention of the Northwest sessions and gave me opportunities to preach at St. John. I will never forget his unique teaching style and as the years went by, after I left the Northwest, and would see him at Convention meetings, he always made it a point to see how I was doing. He was a kind, compassionate and committed man of God. Praying for Kathy and the family.

Reverend Boles was a great pastor, fantastic role model and was greatly missed as pastor of the St John Baptist Church in Tacoma WA upon his retirement. Reverend Boles left some enormous shoes that could never be filled.

I send mine and my family's heartfelt condolences to the Boles Family during this time of sorrow. Have strength in knowing that Reverend Boles had an amazing life, helped a great many people not only with his stirring sermons, words of wisdom and civic actions.....but mostly by his example of being a true man of Christ.

I wish the Boles Family God's comfort and peace in knowing that Reverend Boles is with our heavenly Father rejoicing in His presence.

No words can come to my mind that will cover the magnitude of what your husband, Father, Dad, Civil Rights Drum Major, Leader has done and has been to so many people. It's my prayer that the GOD we serve (Our GOD) of Comfort come amongst you now and and dwell with you. We know time is winding up... but every now and then our GOD who is sovereign and knowith all things made a choice to bring your loved one home.
