Marvin Newton Diskin, 80
Marvin Newton Diskin, 80, died July 7, 2013 in Palm Desert, California.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Golda Diskin on April 26, 1933.
Marvin graduated from Wayne State University where he received a degree in Mass Communications and TV studies, one of the first of its kind. He went on to obtain his PhD from the University of Michigan where he first saw his beautiful wife, Sandra Diskin riding across campus on her bicycle. They were married February 14, 1959.
Marvin taught at Ithaca College from 1963-1966 and then joined the faculty of Purdue University where he established the Electromedia Center as a Professor of Radio and TV. He taught at Purdue from 1967-2005 and was a mentor to generations of undergraduate and graduate students. Marvin produced several award-winning television documentaries, including "A Vision for Tomorrow: The Beering Years," which highlighted Purdue history during the tenure of President Emeritus Steven C. Beering. Marvin also worked in Hollywood, appearing in the movie, "Shadow of Doubt," with Melanie Griffith and Tom Berenger and selling his feature film script, "Shark Island."
Marvin was a US Veteran and a man of diverse interests and hobbies. He could build and fix things and had a terrific sense of humor. He was widely read, a great movie fan, a connoisseur of kosher delicatessens, and a master of 300 ways to prepare chicken, the title of his cookbook to be published posthumously.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Sandra Diskin, his daughters, Shonna Diskin Kline and Ilana Bove, his five grandchildren, his brother, Philip Diskin, his esteemed colleague, Steve Robb, and his godson Douglas Robb. He was predeceased by his son, Aaron Diskin.
A memorial service is being arranged by the family and will be announced at a later date.

I enjoyed Marv's classes at Purdue. They were my favorite. I will always remember him. I stayed in the business and still work as producer in Florida. He inspired many of us in this career.

The Diskin family had come to my mind recently and I wondered where you were and how you are doing! I'm very sorry to hear about Marvin's passing and also greatly saddened to know that Aaron has also passed. I was Aaron's second grade teacher. God be with you during this difficult time.
