At age nineteen I served aboard a US Navy destroyer in Vietnam. Chief Hamady was my leading petty officer. He made us solid young men and good tin can sailors. He was simply the best.

I'm very sorry to hear about Mr. Hamady. I never called him Chief until we got older. He was one of the dads you respected but didn't want to make mad when you were a kid. He was a great man and I'm glad I saw him last time I was home. I thinking of you all.
