Pitts, George Michael  
George Michael Pitts 68 George Michael Pitts, 68, of Lafayette, Indiana passed away Sunday, May 17, in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was born November 27, 1946 in Greencastle Indiana to William and Erma Pitts. Mike was co-owner of ABMI, Inc. in Port Charlotte, Florida. One of Mike's greatest joys was working with the Salvation Army and many churches throughout Florida. He attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. He completed the Carpenters' apprenticeship program and was involved with numerous local contractors over the years. He also was the owner of Pitts and Son Construction. Mike is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Ruthie (Derek); son, Brad (Dana); and daughter, Bethany (Andreas); grandchildren, Bailey, Becca, Dillon, Davis and Bellagrace; and his loyal boxers, Tango and Duke. Also surviving are brother, Larry (Sharon); sister, Bonnie (Bob); sisters-in-law, Julia and Freda (Norman); and brother-in-law, Willis, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Throughout the years, Mike enjoyed working with the youth of the community while coaching East Tipp Summer Rec baseball and Bombers basketball. He was actively involved in Little Gridiron and had served as President of the East Tipp Summer Rec program. Mike was an avid supporter of Harrison High School Athletics, specifically, baseball, basketball and football. He loved Purdue Athletics, the Colts, and most importantly, THE CUBS! He thrived on supporting his grandchildren's love of sports and was their #1 fan. Visitation will be 1-3pm Friday May 22, 2015 Lafayette chapel with service to follow at 3pm. Susan K. Powell, 60 Susan K. Powell, 60, of Boswell, died, Friday, May 22, 2015. She was born, February 8, 1955, in Chicago Heights, IL. She was a 1973 graduate of Thornton TWP High School, Harvey, IL. She married, James Garland Powell, July 28, 1973, in Riverdale, IL; he survives. She had worked as a Paramedic with Daily's Ambulance, Dolton, IL, Fire Safety and Workman's Comp. Coordinator with Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority (McCormick Place), Chicago, IL & most recently Certified Nursing Assistant with Indiana's Veterans Home, West Lafayette, IN. She enjoyed spending time with kids and grandchildren, gardening, cooking and baking especially with her grandchildren & served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter and Paramedic for many years. Surviving with her husband, James Powell, is a son, Jason Powell, daughter, Melissa Fox (Brody), 5 grandchildren, Justin and Ashlyn Powell & Blayne, Carter and Dailey Fox, sister, Linda Love, 2 brothers, Joseph Dominik & Martin Dominik (Sue) & numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Dominik, mother, Sandy (Doornbos) Bordenaro & stepfather, Joseph Bordenaro. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Boswell Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be at the church at 10 AM, Saturday, May 30, 2015, with John Morris officiating. Burial will be at Boswell Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Benton County EMS Donation Fund or Leader Dogs for the Blind. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Otterbein, is assisting the Family.
