Michael W. Bell, 47

Michael W. Bell, 47, of Monticello, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in his residence. He was born on October 2, 1964 to the late Robert L. and Margaret (Ryan) Bell in Lafayette. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and had worked at Braun Corporation for 13 years as a welder. He was an avid motorcyclist and loved his dogs and his children.

He is survived by three children, Misha Bell of Memphis, TN, Shelbra Bell of Tucson, AZ, and Myles Bell of Lafayette; his siblings, Colleen Terry of Ft. Myers, FL, Robert "Bobby" Bell of Jupiter, FL, and Lisa Bell of Lafayette; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Simplicity Funeral Care with visitation one hour prior. Hippensteel Funeral Service and Crematory entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.simplicity-funeralcare.com.

Joy Darlene Bucy, 84

Joy Darlene Bucy, 84, of Monticello, Indiana, died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Indiana University Health, White Memorial Hospital of Monticello.

Born Wednesday, March 30, 1927, in White County, she was the daughter of Oscar L. Robinson and Nancy O. (Price) Robinson.

Joy had lived in the Monticello community all of her life. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Monticello and also the Emma Stewart Circle of the church. Joy retired from a local financial institution.

Survivors include: Daughters, Nancy (husband John) Piatt of Monticello, Carol (husband Gerard) Stoner of Charlotte, North Carolina, Barbara Million of Brookston, Indiana, and Phyllis (husband Stuart Gillette) Million of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Sister, Dorothy Beyers of Mesa, Arizona; Grandchildren, Joshua McDonald, and Jessica McDonald, both of Lafayette, Indiana; Great-Grandchildren, Jaeleigha, Austin, and Connor. Preceded in death by her parents and Brother, Donald D. "Don" Robinson.

Memorial Celebration of Life Service Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at the Monticello United Methodist Church, 200 S. Main Street, Monticello, Rev. Brian Beeks of the Monticello United Methodist Church of Monticello, Indiana officiating.

Private family burial at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello. Gathering of Family and Friends from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at the Monticello United Methodist Church. Kenneth E. Chapman, Sr

Kenneth E. Chapman, Sr., 63, of Lafayette, died at IU Arnett Hospital 12:07 PM Monday Feb. 20, 2012 where he had been a patient the past week. He had been battling cancer the past 18 months.

Kenneth was born in Lafayette, IN. June 14, 1948, the son of the late Clyde O. and Virginia N. Newkirk, and attended Wainwright High School.

He married Patricia A. "Pat" Palmiero at Prosser, WA. March 16, 1968, and she survives.

Kenneth worked as a finish carpenter for Cornerstone Homes, and served in the U.S. Air Force from August 26, 1966 until August 25, 1970. He was a member of American Legion Post 777 of Indianapolis.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Angela Fears (husband Don) of Lafayette; a son, Kenneth E. Chapman, Jr. of Brazil, IN.; 2 sisters, Nancy Summers and Kathy Richardson (husband Joseph), both of Brookston, IN.; 2 grandchildren, Tommy Lee Fears and Jonathon Chapman; and 2 stepgrandchildren, Twyla and Allen Henderson.

Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 5 until 8 PM Monday. Funeral services at the funeral home 10:00 AM Tuesday, Dr. Will Miller officiating with interment following at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens with American Legion Post 11 graveside rites. Michael L. Chapman

Michael Leroy Chapman, age 55, died Saturday Feb. 18, 2012. There will not be a funeral, but we are holding an in home memorial, Saturday Feb. 25, 2012 between 1pm and 6pm at his home located at 154 N Briarwood Cir. Frankfort, IN 46058 off Jefferson Blacktop. All friends and family are welcome to come and pay their respects.

John Raymond Gambs

John (Jack) R. Gambs, age 91, of Westfield, IN and formerly of Indianapolis and Columbus, OH, died February 21, 2012 in Noblesville, IN. Born February 2, 1921 in Columbus Ohio he attended Holy Rosary Grade and High School. He graduated from Ohio State University in Pre-Med with a degree in Bacteriology. He entered the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant from Ohio State University's ROTC program and then joined the Tank Destroyer Corps at Ft. Hood Texas and was a company commander at Company 648 Tank Destroyer Battalion. He served oversees in WWII in Germany and France with General Patton's 3rd Army and was the awarded the Bronze and Silver Star. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Major in 1946.

In 1943, he married Joan R. Eberle. He started his sales career with Byers Automotive in Columbus, Ohio. Jack moved to Indianapolis and started Gambs Truck Sales in 1956. He was also the first President of Wabash Ford Truck Sales. He then enjoyed a sales career at F.C. Tucker in commercial real estate. He was an avid hunter, marksman, pilot, boatman, reader, lover of nature and an enthusiastic student of life. He loved talking with young people, sharing their ideas and conversing about current events. He was a remarkable father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His positive spirit and joy of life will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.

Jack is survived by his wife, Joan, and three of their four children: John Gambs (Kathy) of Lafayette, IN, Patricia Mac Innis (Dan) of Noblesville, IN, Rosemary Lamberson (Mark) of Flagstaff, AZ, former daughter-in-law Sally Gambs of Indianapolis, and special adopted daughter, Kay (Lou) Gillespie of Muncie. Jack is also survived by eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Richard Gambs of Columbus, OH.

He was preceded in death by one son, David, parents Charles Raymond Gambs Sr. and Helen Casey Gambs, three brothers, Gerald Gambs, Charles R. Gambs Jr., infant brother Richard C. Gambs.

A private celebration of Jack's life will be held for the family. Interment will occur at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

William E. Gerlach, 68

William E. "Bill" Gerlach, 68, of Otterbein, died at 7:50 p.m. February 20, 2012 at the Richard Roudebush Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born May 11, 1943 in Oxford, IN, the son of the late Eugene "Gene" Gerlach and Betty Biddle Gerlach Kolb. Bill was a graduate of Oxford High School and after graduation, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. His marriage was on October 30, 1993 in Battle Ground to Jane Brewer Jones and she survives. Bill had worked for a brief period at Alcoa in Lafayette, then at Butler Implement in Boswell, and went on to work at Suburban Floor Covering in West Lafayette and for Carpetland in Lafayette as a carpet layer. He then started his own floor covering business, Gerlach Carpet Service. Bill was then employed at Purdue University in the WTHR Building in the maintenance department, working there for 16 years before retiring in 2010. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post #492 and the Pine Village Masonic Lodge #315, F. & A.M. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars and vegetable gardening. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving with his wife are two sons: James R. (wife: Patrice) Gerlach of Fowler and Darren W. (wife: Misty) Gerlach of Lafayette, and one daughter: DeAnn L. Gerlach of Lafayette, six stepchildren: Franklin S. Brewer of Walton, IN, Willie P. (wife: Jenna) Young of Noblesville, Sarah J. (husband: John) Hoover of West Lafayette, Mike P. (wife: Coco) Jones of Otterbein, Greg T.(wife: Yvette) Jones of McCordsville, and Allan D. (wife: Alejandra) Jones of Tuscan, AZ, one brother: Michael (wife: Brenda) Kolb of West Lafayette, two sisters: Cindy (husband: Bob) Landseadel of Shadeland and Donita (husband: Fred) Navarra of West Point. Bill is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Tim "TJ" Gerlach and Billy Kolb and his step-father: Don Kolb.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Pine Village Masonic Lodge service 7 p.m. Services 1:00 p.m. Saturday in Hippensteel Chapel with Celebrant Denis E. Horn officiating. Sandra Louise Graves

Sandra Louise (Thayer) Graves, passed away on February 19, 2012 at 4:55 AM. She was born on July 27, 1941 to Robert M. Thayer and Frances W. (Waye) Thayer in Crawfordsville, IN.

Sandra was a 1959 graduate of Coal Creek High School and graduated from Tidewater Community College with an Associates Degree. She was retired from the IN State Highway Department.

She is survived by her three children, Dawn Hennessey of Washington, D.C.; Stacey Grabman of Oceanside, CA. and Robert Graves of Chicago, IL. and five grandchildren, Andrew, Mallorie, Alexandria, Meigan and Colin. She is also survived by a sister, Linda Burkle and a brother, James Thayer.

Frederick J. Holzgrefe Jr., 69

Frederick "Fritz" J. Holzgrefe Jr., 69, of Lafayette died Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Lower Keys Medical Center, Key West, FL. He was born May 30, 1942, in Richmond, VA, to the late Frederick and Gertrude Overman Holzgrefe. Fritz graduated from Benedictine High School, Richmond, VA and the University of Notre Dame in 1964. His first marriage was to Jean Sicnolf and she preceded him in death in 1972. He then married Ellen Vickers in 1974 and she preceded him in death in 2011. Mr. Holzgrefe was a pork producer in Montgomery County for many years. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and was an avid Notre Dame football fan. Fritz enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, tailgating, and fishing.

Surviving are his children Frederick Holzgrefe III wife Mary Jo, Milton, GA and Regis Watson husband James, Naperville, IL, grandchildren Megan and Frederick Holzgrefe IV and James III, Margaret and Ann Watson. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Agnes Hamilton husband Steve, Ithaca, NY, Jeanne Holzgrefe husband Glen Westley, Washington, DC, Catherine Luckey husband David, Richmond, VA, and a brother Joe Holzgrefe, Glenn Allen, VA. Fritz was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Karen Holzgrefe and a sister Margaret Holzgrefe.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Rosary at 3:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Saturday at St. Mary Cathedral, Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
